Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon was a video game created by Arc System Works and released for the Nintendo Game Boy by Angel (Bandai) in 1992. It marked one of the earliest video game adaptations of the Sailor Moon franchise. In the game, players took control of Usagi Tsukino, also known as Sailor Moon. The plot followed the first, third, and fourth episodes of the first season of the anime. Though Ami and Rei had not yet appeared in those episodes, the game allowed Usagi to interact with them as NPCs (non-player characters). The game featured three levels, each split into two sections. Initially, Usagi could explore locations like the city, school, or a health spa, occasionally engaging in conversations with characters. After speaking to the correct individuals, Usagi transformed into Sailor Moon and entered a combat stage where she battled multiple enemies. By default, Sailor Moon's only attack was a kick. Pressing the "down" button made her sit and cry, and if rocks were present on nearby walls, her loud wailing caused them to explode, dropping special items. These items granted various abilities, such as a limited-time use of Moon Tiara Action or temporary invincibility. The game's bosses included Morga, Kyurene, Jadeite, and Queen Beryl. Sailor Moon had to confront Jadeite after defeating two Youma in each level, and he reappeared one final time before the showdown with Queen Beryl in the last stage.
