Patch 2.1, the initial major version update for Final Fantasy XIV, introduces significant new content and improvements to Eorzea. It includes the debut of the Crystal Tower 24-player raid, a housing system tailored for free companies, and balanced adjustments to job abilities.
Five years ago, the world teetered on the edge of ruin when the ancient primal Bahamut, seething from centuries of imprisonment, unleashed his wrath upon Eorzea. His fury scarred the land, bringing the Sixth Astral Era to a devastating close. In time, Eorzea began to mend, and her people found a fleeting peace. But not for long. The Garlean Empire stirred once more, seeking to shroud the realm in its dominion. To resist this looming darkness, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn turned to courageous adventurers willing to raise their weapons in defense. United, they repelled the Garlean menace, earning the gratitude of rulers and citizens alike. Yet, where there is light, shadow inevitably follows. The beast tribes continue their pursuit of the primals—celestial beings whose strength grows with the power of gathered crystals and the devotion of their followers. The remnants of the fallen Garlean Empire rise again, driven by new desires for conquest. And in the shadows, the sinister Ascians remain, their influence awakening ancient, malevolent forces. As fresh dangers arise, adventurers must once more answer the call of the Crystal.
