Psygnosis retaliates with Formula 1 98, delivering not only a brand-new game engine and fresh features but also the involvement of developer Visual Science. Formula 1 98 also includes an authentic 1998 FIA license, ensuring real tracks, cars, drivers, teams, more in-depth statistics, and other realistic F1 elements. Visually, Visual Science has successfully adjusted field depth and minimized pop-up effects while maintaining the detailed, high-speed visuals the first two titles were praised for. Players can now experience the action from a new cockpit perspective, complete with realistic driver head movements and enhanced particle effects to boost realism and crash visuals. Additionally, the commentary has been expanded to include not just well-known English commentators but also real commentators in other languages, making it a great choice for players who prefer non-English audio. The cars are modeled after 1998 versions with increased attention to detail and branding, while all tracks have also been significantly enhanced. The interface now includes a track map in arcade mode, and existing car dynamics and controls have been refined in simulation mode for a more realistic feel. Formula 1 98 introduces new pit features, such as animated pit crews, penalties, and Wipeout-style pit stops in arcade mode. Psygnosis has also added a new arcade challenge mode, while retaining many of the game's original features, including game modes, options, and overall functionality.
