The opening portion of the Kannagi no Mori narrative.
Kinami Mizuki, the story’s main character, has had the ability to see things beyond the ordinary since childhood. Her mother, the only family member who knew about it, had begged her to keep the secret, and Mizuki honored that promise. One rainy evening, as she gazed out the window, she spotted a woman walking in the downpour without an umbrella. To her shock, the woman looked exactly like her mother, who had passed away just three days earlier. --On a rainy night, the dead return. It was a whispered legend she had heard during a visit to her mother’s grave. Though she knew it couldn’t be real, Mizuki couldn’t help but run out and follow the woman. But when she caught up, it was not her mother she found, but a strange young man. “I’ve come to take you with me.” The young man kneeling before her was revealed to be a servant of her father’s estranged grandfather. Guided by him, Mizuki was led to a remote village called Ugetsu, far from the city. There, she met her ailing grandfather, who had entrusted her with managing the “Yorozu Ayakashi-ya,” a shop that handles the affairs of gods and spirits.
