Metro Exodus is a grand, narrative-rich first-person shooter developed by 4A Games that combines intense combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror, set within one of the most immersive virtual worlds ever crafted. Traverse the Russian wilds through expansive, non-linear environments and experience an exhilarating storyline that unfolds over the course of a year, from spring and summer through autumn and into the bleakness of nuclear winter. Drawing inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels, Metro Exodus continues Artyom’s journey in the most ambitious Metro experience to date. The Enhanced Edition introduces enhanced Ray Tracing features such as Advanced Ray Traced Reflections and compatibility with DLSS 2.0. This update also refines the existing Ray Traced Global Illumination to ensure every light source is fully Ray Traced. It also integrates the Ray Traced Emissive Lighting technology from The Two Colonels across the entire game.
After the assault on D6, Artyom grows disheartened by the endless conflict and corruption within the Metro and abandons the Spartan Order. He becomes fixated on proving that human life still exists beyond Moscow, embarking on multiple perilous journeys to the surface, much to Anna's worry and Miller's irritation. During one such trip with Anna, they witness a functioning train operating above ground. Before they can pursue it, they are seized by Hansa troops, along with a group claiming to be from outside Moscow. The Hansa soldiers kill the other captives, and Artyom is shot and left for dead, dragging Anna to their base. Surviving the wound, Artyom follows the soldiers to rescue Anna, unintentionally destroying a signal jammer that had blocked all communication in and out of Moscow. Radio signals from across the globe begin to be received, and Artyom and Anna realize that humanity is not extinct. They escape by stealing one of Hansa's trains, the "Aurora," with the help of a defected Hansa engineer named Yermak. As the train departs, the Spartan Order attempts to reclaim it and is stunned to see Artyom and Anna aboard. Knowing that Hansa will execute them all for knowing the truth, Miller concludes that the Spartans' best chance of survival is to flee Moscow. Once outside the city, he reveals that while many Russian cities were bombed, the war did not end and NATO occupied what remained of the country. To prevent NATO from attacking Moscow, the Russian leadership secretly jammed all communications to make the outside world believe no one had survived. They then receive a broadcast from Moscow Defense Command urging survivors to gather at the "Ark," located in Mount Yamantau. Miller decides to head there, believing the Ark is where the Russian government has reestablished itself. After crossing the Volga River, which is controlled by a cult, the Spartans arrive at the Yamantau base. They find the base's service and construction workers have turned into cannibals, luring survivors with false promises of safety. Artyom and the Spartans fight their way out, but Miller's trust in Russia is shattered when he discovers the government never took shelter in Yamantau and did not survive the war, leaving the Spartans uncertain of their next move. Using a map they recovered from Yamantau, they decide to travel to a satellite communication center near the Caspian Sea in hopes of accessing a satellite to locate habitable land. At the dried-up remains of the Caspian Sea, the Spartans steal water and fuel from local bandits while obtaining an updated satellite map. As the Spartans continue their journey, Anna begins coughing up blood, fearing she inhaled poison gas during the trip. They decide to explore a nearby taiga forest valley to see if it is suitable for settlement. While scouting the forest, Artyom is caught between two rival survivor factions and discovers the dam protecting the valley from radiation is about to collapse, rendering the area uninhabitable. Artyom returns to the train to find Anna's condition has worsened. The Spartans take a detour to the heavily irradiated city of Novosibirsk, the nearest place where an antidote might be found. Miller and Artyom decide to enter the city alone to search for the antidote despite the danger. They enter the Novosibirsk Metro and meet a young boy named Kirill, one of the last survivors of Novosibirsk, who explains that his father went on a mission to find a map showing the location of a clean, habitable area. Miller and Artyom split up, with Miller searching for the map and Artyom looking for the antidote. Artyom manages to retrieve the antidote but is severely injured by a mutant and exposed to a large dose of radiation. Artyom, Miller, and Kirill return to the train with the map and the antidote, but Miller dies from radiation poisoning on the way back after using a dose of anti-radiation serum meant for himself to save Artyom. The rest of the Spartans donate their blood for a critical transfusion for Artyom. Anna is cured with the antidote, and using the map, the Spartans settle on the shores of Lake Baikal, a location completely free from radiation. Artyom's final fate is determined by the player's choices throughout the journey. In the bad ending, Artyom succumbs to radiation poisoning, and the Spartans and a grieving Anna hold a funeral for him and Miller while the spirits of Artyom and Miller awaken on a decaying version of the Aurora, trapped in a ghostly afterlife for eternity. In the good ending, Artyom survives. Miller is buried, and Artyom is chosen to take his place as leader of the Spartan Order. With a new home free from radiation, Artyom decides to return to Moscow and reveal the truth of the outside world to the Metro's survivors.
