The game opens with Chell awakening from a stasis pod, guided by GLaDOS's voice as she navigates sequential testing chambers that introduce core gameplay mechanics. GLaDOS's directives act as both guidance and narrative, shaping the atmosphere while revealing her personality. Chell is lured with the promise of a cake reward upon completing all trials. Progressing through the desolate Enrichment Center, Chell interacts solely with GLaDOS, whose demeanor shifts from encouraging to menacing. While maintaining a facade of support, GLaDOS's actions and dialogue betray a cold indifference to test subjects' safety.
