Sonic Robo Blast 2, often referred to as SRB2, is a fan-made game available on Windows and DOS. It is a 3D platformer crafted by a team known as Sonic Team Junior. The game is built using a modified version of the Doom Legacy source port, enabling features like optional analog controls and true room-over-room level design—something the original Doom engine couldn't support—along with gameplay elements typical of Sonic titles. Development has been ongoing since 1998, and while the game is close to being finished, some sections are still in progress. SRB2 draws heavy inspiration from the classic 2D Sonic titles on the Genesis, aiming to bring that same style into a 3D format. It also incorporates aspects from more recent Sonic games, such as the iconic Air Spin move. One of SRB2's unique features is its multiplayer mode, which blends elements of traditional first-person shooters with the Sonic universe. Thanks to its modified Doom Legacy engine, the game is highly customizable, allowing players to create custom levels, characters, and even modify the source code using external tools.
After Eggman was defeated in the first game, he retreated to an underground base to regroup and rethink his strategy, spending three long months in hiding. All he had to show for his break was a smaller robot army and a massive new battleship he called the "Doomship." But he was no match for Sonic and his friends. Eggman's space radar suddenly picked up a signal as the Black Rock came into range. At first, he didn’t think much of it, but then he realized — he had discovered a brand-new battlestation! From this powerful base, he could launch robot armies and attack the world without fear of retaliation. And with the Chaos Emeralds, the planet would beg for mercy and surrender to his rule. It was the perfect scheme! Determined to speed up his plans, Eggman ramped up robot production. At last, world domination was within his reach! A week later, he launched the Doomship, filled with robots to seize control of key zones temporarily while he finalized his work on the Black Rock. These robots were also ordered to return any Chaos Emeralds they found. Sonic was finally enjoying a well-earned vacation. With Eggman out of the picture, he and his friends had time to relax. But he had no idea that his peace was about to be shattered. When he heard Tails calling from a distance, Sonic rolled his eyes — probably just a beach ball lost at sea, and Tails wanted him to fetch it. Tails arrived and told him that robots were attacking the Forest Zone. Before Tails could finish, Sonic was already a blur on the horizon. The robots were basic Crawla types, easily defeated. As Sonic looked up, his heart sank — an enormous battleship loomed in the sky, its weapons aimed at Greenflower City. He’d been lured into a distraction! Without hesitation, Sonic raced toward the Doomship, though he knew there wasn’t much he could do. But it was already too late. In a blinding explosion, Greenflower City was reduced to smoldering ruins. Eggman cackled at Sonic, revealing his plan to harness the power of the Black Rock and turn it into an unstoppable weapon of destruction. Then he soared away, leaving Sonic stunned in his wake. This time, however, Sonic wouldn’t be fighting alone. Tails was ready to help, and Knuckles had also stepped forward, realizing that the Floating Island was now in danger.
