
The player takes control of one of two surviving fighter pilots—'Jet,' a male pilot, and 'Nova,' a female pilot—both piloting the Icarus, a swift and formidable space fighter armed with a standard laser. Two additional weapons become available during the game: the wide shot (W), which spreads in front of the ship, and the Hurricane shot (H), which launches clusters of spinning energy spheres. Holding the fire button charges a special attack, and each weapon delivers a unique energy blast with varying damage output. The ship can carry up to two smart-bombs, one beneath each wing—while players can activate them, they also detach easily and can be detonated by enemy fire. Notably, the Icarus cannot collide with other ships or environmental objects; instead, it bounces off and only takes damage from enemy attacks. However, once the shield is drained, the ship goes into a brief spin-out, giving the player a final opportunity to strike remaining enemies before it explodes.
In the year 2100 A.D., humans were wiped out by their own destructive tendencies, leaving Earth ravaged by environmental collapse. Forced to flee to Mars, they left behind a bio-computer to aid in Earth's recovery, preparing the blue planet for eventual return. But fifty years after humanity's arrival on Mars, the red planet was suddenly attacked by mysterious flying objects. To combat this threat, the Director General of the Defense Agency formed a task force and launched an immediate aerial battle against the invaders to stop the assault. The operation was named the "Acrobat Mission," due to the extreme technical challenges it placed on the pilots.
