The Quest of Ki is a 1988 video game created by Game Studio and released by Namco for the Family Computer. It serves as the third installment in the Babylonian Castle Saga series, which began with the 1984 arcade title, The Tower of Druaga. The narrative of The Quest of Ki functions as a prequel to the original Tower of Druaga. It takes place just after the demon Druaga has taken the Blue Crystal Rod and brought it to his fortress. The goddess Ishtar dispatches the priestess Ki to recover the artifact. The game chronicles her perilous journey to the tower’s summit, directly setting up the events of the original game. The game is a side-scrolling platformer featuring 100 levels. In each level, the player's objective is to collect a key and unlock the door to the next section. A variety of enemies, such as slimes, phantoms, and sorcerers, inhabit each floor, and touching any of them results in instant death. Ki is unarmed and cannot attack or eliminate any foes. Her only tools are the ability to dash and jump. If the player holds the jump button, Ki can ascend continuously, but hitting the ceiling will cause her to fall and be temporarily stunned for a few seconds. Many levels are puzzle-based, requiring precise control over Ki's jumps in terms of height and direction. Each stage contains one or more treasure chests holding various items. While many of these items grant useful powers, their effects are limited to the floor where they are discovered. After finishing the game, players unlock 40 bonus stages. These stages feature appearances from the Pac-Man ghosts and enemies from Dig Dug.
