On October 12, 2011, Enterrise launched a pachislot edition of the game in Japan. This version includes all the characters from the console release. Players take on the role of Ryu in the story mode, while characters like Ken or Chun-Li can only be used at specific moments. A new addition to this version is the 3D overworld sequences where Ryu moves through various stages and locations from the game. The battle sequences return as well, but in this pachislot version, they are now turn-based—similar to Pokémon Stadium, its sequel, and Pokémon Battle Revolution. The Reg Bonus in this game introduces a new bonus stage involving door-opening that was not included in the arcade and console versions of Street Fighter IV or its updated releases. A follow-up based on SSFIV: Arcade Edition was released on March 22, 2016.
Street Fighter IV is set several months after the events of Street Fighter II. Following Seth's escape, the S.I.N. corporation launched a new fighting tournament aimed at luring the planet's most formidable warriors to aid in the completion of the BLECE project. Each fighter enters the competition for their own reasons, though S.I.N.'s true objective is to attract Ryu in order to study the Satsui no Hado, which they believe is the final key to finishing BLECE. The tournament is publicly hosted by S.I.N., seemingly using a series of preliminary matches and a scoring system to determine eligibility (as seen in the exchange between Seth and his subordinate regarding how Dan Hibiki barely earned enough points to qualify). It's likely that the only competitors in the tournament are the playable characters in Street Fighter IV, excluding Seth.
