Summary
The follow-up to Dynasty Tactics expands the player's tactical options and introduces new characters and features.
As in the original, the player takes on the roles of three key leaders from ancient China: Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun Ce. A new playable character is the warrior Lu Bu. Each character has their own distinct story path, shaped by the player's decisions and the outcomes of the various chapters the game is divided into. The player manages and moves their officers and troops across the map, engaging in conflicts to achieve specific goals within a set number of turns.
During battles, the game shifts from the map to a dedicated battlefield screen. The combat system resembles chess, with the player moving units in a turn-based manner, aiming to position them for special tactics. Successfully doing so can lead to powerful combos that not only destroy enemy units but also capture enemy officers, who can then join the player's forces (over 200 are available in the game).
Morale and terrain play important roles as well. Units have varied abilities based on their type and position in the army. Engineers, for example, can construct useful structures such as supply depots. Army strategists can use the link command from the previous game to immobilize enemy units and boost combo counts. Additionally, they can now issue chain commands, allowing individual officers to perform multiple tactics (if the conditions are met), though at the cost of morale.
The game also includes a two-player versus mode featuring random battles.
