Super Mario 128 was a codename used by Nintendo for two separate, highly publicized development projects during the 1990s and 2000s. Initially envisioned as a follow-up to Super Mario 64, the project was ultimately scrapped, with its core ideas repurposed for a GameCube tech demo. Unveiled at Nintendo's Space World event in 2000, the showcased visuals and physics concepts were later integrated into several games throughout the 2000s. These include the fast object spawning in Pikmin, the sphere navigation system seen in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy, and the environmental physics featured in Metroid Prime.
