In a barren world where creatures as massive as mountains roam untamed, a solitary hero and his steed venture into the unknown in pursuit of forgotten power. Shadow of the Colossus, a legendary PlayStation 2 classic, is set to be reborn with the enhanced capabilities of the PlayStation 3.
A misty evening unfolds as a solitary hawk glides past Wander and his loyal steed, Agro, as they traverse a treacherous cliffside route along the rim of a vast canyon. The two have journeyed for a long while along this secluded trail, winding through dense, shadowy woods and damp, sprawling meadows. At last, they reach their goal: a towering stone archway with a narrow opening. Beyond it stretches an immense bridge of almost mystical design. This bridge crosses over the Forbidden Lands, a striking expanse of plains and canyons featuring isolated and cut-off regions—from parched deserts to deep chasms with towering geysers, to shadowy woodlands and dark, waterlogged gorges. The bridge eventually leads to the Shrine of Worship, a colossal edifice at the heart of the Lands. Wander and Agro descend to the ground level and enter the temple’s grand hall, which is adorned with sixteen stone statues. At the far end of the empty chamber lies an altar. Here, it becomes clear that Wander has brought something with him: a figure wrapped in a cloth. He gently places the figure on the altar and removes the covering, revealing Mono, a young woman dressed in a white gown. The scene abruptly shifts to an image of an owl mask against a cloudy sky. From this moment, Lord Emon, a revered spiritual figure in Wander’s world, delivers a cryptic speech: That place...began from the harmony of converging points... They are memories rewritten as being and nothing, carved into stone. Blood, young growth, sky—and the one who wields the power to command beings born of light... In that world, it is said that if one desires it, one may return the souls of the departed. But to enter that land is strictly forbidden... Agro is suddenly startled by a sound from behind the group. From the temple floor, several dark, ghostly figures begin to rise, and Wander notices, swiftly drawing a strange sword from its scabbard and pointing it at the apparitions. The blade radiates a supernatural force, causing the creatures to vanish instantly. At once, two deep, resonant voices echo through the chamber from a massive opening above, astonished that Wander holds the "Ancient Sword." Wander correctly identifies the voices as those of Dormin and pleads for Mono’s revival. At first, Dormin appears uninterested in the matter, but eventually, the allure of the sword Wander wields proves too strong to ignore.
